A Vision for Preservation and Empowerment
The Maliku Development Society (MDS) recognizes the Mahal language as a priceless cultural treasure and a living expression of the identity of the Maliku/Minicoy Islands. Preserving and promoting Mahal is essential not only to safeguard our heritage, but also to strengthen community pride and intergenerational continuity.

To preserve, promote, and strengthen the Mahal language as a symbol of cultural identity, while empowering the community through structured language development and awareness.
Our Objectives
-
Documentation and Standardization
To document the Mahal language systematically and support efforts toward its standardization for long-term preservation. -
Education and Learning Resources
To develop educational materials, curricula, and learning programs that encourage the teaching and learning of the Mahal language among children, youth, and adults. -
Everyday Usage and Visibility
To encourage the active use of the Mahal language in daily communication, cultural activities, media, and appropriate official platforms. -
Research and Cultural Studies

Through this programme, MDS aims to:
-
