About Us

Mr.M Ali Ismail Umeri, an eminent scholar, a visionary and gifted son of Minicoy, had indeed created a vacuum that could never be filled. However, he had inspired us strugle, instilled courage and hope to survive the adversities. His dream was to strengthen MDS with the support of men and women willing to render selfless service by sparing time and energy to involve in activities that are beneficial to the community.

It was during the first half of 1996 that some like-minded people of Minicoy Island took the initiative to come together setting aside political and  other differences for the benefit of the Island and its people; their sincere efforts culminated in the establishment of a new NGO by the name Maliku Development Society(MDS) under the stewardship of Mr.M Ali Ismail Umeri marking beginning of a new era.
